As with all jobs, the facilities and equipment is vitally important. On farms these days with large continental breeds of cattle that can weigh 700-800kg each when full grown, restraint of said animals is paramount. We have seen many of our farm clients invest in safe handling facilities for these animals. This means that when we the vets come along to do generally unpleasant procedures on the cattle, they can be properly restrained to avoid self injury and allow farmers and vets to carry out vital (often live saving) surgeries safely. Cattle crushes can be used for all sizes of bovine animal. Below are a few pictures of cattle crushes which our clients have invested in to improve welfare on their farms.
