We are mixed multi site practice, with surgeries in Alston, Stanhope & Allendale, covering the border areas of Cumbria, Durham & Northumberland respectively. At all three surgeries we stock a full range of drugs and supplies for consultations and medical care, with most of our surgical procedures performed at our Alston main surgery where we have nurses, theatres and surgical equipment. Below are the opening times, contact details and map directions for all 3 surgeries.

All firms are small businesses or sole traders and may offer a limited service. There is no Animal ambulance service as such in the area.

At Old Stone Vets, we provide our own 24hr emergency Out Of Hours veterinary service, staffed by our own vets in our own surgeries. If you ring any of our surgery numbers, you will go through an answering service and then directly on to the vet on call that night or weekend and they will make suitable arrangements to meet. There is an Out of Hours Consultation fee  (see “What we charge” for further details) which is payable at the time of consultation.

  • Rachel carried out a vetting on a horse for us on 19th April. We were travelling a long distance, didn't know any vets in the area but were recommended to contact Old Stone Vets. I am so glad that we did. What a professional and friendly practise, from the lovely lady on reception through to Rachel who did a fantastic job at the vetting. She had taken on board exactly what we were looking for in our potential new horse, and tailored the vetting exactly to suit that. We are delighted that the beautiful horse flew through the vetting and is now home with us. It gave us a lot of confidence having someone so knowledgeable and thorough as Rachel carrying out the vetting and we would recommend her and Old Stone Vets to anyone needing either a horse vetted or who needs a first class equine vet for their horses.
